Naturally Low Carb

The Atkins diet has been a hot topic at the winery as several of us, lead by winery owner Dr. Gross, have been on the program for many months. Yesterday we were struck with an obvious thought. Wine has an average of 2 - 3 carbs per glass. Wine is a naturally low carb beverage and for those of us on the Atkins program, or simply cutting back carbs, wine is the obvious beverage for meals, a night out or simply relaxing with friends. We would refer you to Dr. Atkins books for specifics on wine and the diet, but do note that if you seek a low carb beverage, wine is the perfect naturally low carb choice. And, when you consider that Cooper Mountain vineyards winesa are made from organic and biodynamic grapes you are getting an increasingly health conscience beverage.

Check back soon as we are about to send our wines out for Carb testing to determine exactly what our carb count is per glass. Enjoy.

It's nearly December....have you got the results of your carb count? Christmas is rushing to us and lots of us want to know!

We're working on getting a formal lab test on our wines but have found it difficult to find a lab who can do it properly. Our normal wine industry labs don't seem set up for carb testing, seems about time they do. Please know that a glass of wine (5 oz.) generally has less than 3 carbs and that the drying the wine the lower the carb count will be. So if you drink one of our Pinot Noirs you are at abotu 3 where our Old Vines Chardonnay will be less. But if you toast with our Vin Glace you just might be in carb rehab an extra week. I know I was. Cheers to the holidays and be careful how much you drink no matter the reason.

I enjoy a glass of melot or cab with my evening meal and am interested in finding the lowest carb wine available, since I follow the Adkins diet.

I do not drink much alcohol as I am a cheap drunk and alcoholism is strong in my family. However, I do enjoy a single glass of Merlot now and then. Are all Merlots created equal in the carb world? Is it true that one glass = about 3 grams? Is there any truth to the rumor that red wine actually helps the insulin - glucagen process, or was this just made up by a wine company?

Thanks!

I would also like the list of low carb wines. I am attempting to stay on a low carb diet, but I love several glasses of White Zin in the evening with dinner.
Is there one best for this type of diet???

Hi everyone,

Please note the original statement regarding low carbs and wine. Wine has an average of 2 - 3 carbs per glass. Dry white and and red wines will lean to the lower side of this scale and sweet desert wines......well, those will probably fill your carb count for the day.

Remember, the dry wines are your best bet so stay away or limit your consumption of sweet wines.
