Cooper Mountain Goes to Tokyo
I finally found a computer where I can access this page and add some notes directly. Sean, at bootsnall.com, has been a great help in posting the photos I am sending (I'll bet Chris has had a hand in this too) - thank you.
My visit to Japan has been a wonderful experience so far. The people here are wonderful, very polite, gracious and helpful. Not knowing the language, communicating is relatively easy as most Japanese speak some English.
Our first day of tastings with importers went quite well. There was a very good turn out of interested buyers who seemed to very much appreciate our organic focus. To my suprise, many were aware of Biodynamics.
After the tasting, Betty O'brian and I were treated to dinner at a local restaurant. We would have never found this spot without the help of our associate Ms. Ishi. Dinner was a gret chance to see how Pinot Gris pairs with Japanese cuisine and to our delight, it was perfect. The light acids, viscosity and sweet finish of our 2001 Estate Pinot Gris proved to be a perfect match with various tofu dishes, duck, chicken, and the array of Japanaese flavors.
It is Thursday here and I am preparing for a day of tastings and seminars with the Japanese media and wine trade. Our goal is to introduce Oregon wine and help the people here understand the wonderful opportunities that Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris offer in relation to their cuisine.
I hope everyone is enjoying the photos. If you have any questions about this adventure please post them here and I will reply as time allows me to access a PC.

Photos speak for themselves and they are great. Thanks, Dewey.
Do you have time to look around and feel the pulse of Tokyo?
I'm back and right to work getting ready for lots of new things at the winery. The visit to Japan was very successful and it looks like we will be doing more business there. I was suprised how easy it was to get around and communicate. While Japan was not high on my list of places to visit, it is certainly a place that is high on my list of places to return.
Thank you again to Mr. Kojima of the Oregon Bar and Grill. Wonderful restaurant, great dinner and we are ever more proud to be your house wine.
Back to work and thinking about Japan.
